About the Jazz Bands
There are two jazz ensembles at Mountain View, both by audition only. Jazz is a great way for students to expand their musical horizons and learn about America's original art form.
Jazz I
Jazz I is an auditioned group of advanced music students who work to perform big band music of the highest quality. It has a tradition of excellence in performance at regional jazz festivals, placing in the top four of every festival entered in the past 5 years. The band performed a feature concert at the 65th annual Midwest clinic in Chicago in December. They were joined onstage by outstanding musicians Pete Boule, Scott Wilson (University of Florida) and Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band). The band is open to students in grades 9-12. Auditions were held in June at the end of school in 2011; in prior years, auditions were held in late August. Students enroll in a class that meets daily, and attend extra rehearsals as required.
