Participating in a summer camp is one great way to enhance your overall musicianship. Working with professionals on your instrument while rehearsing with other students over a concentrated period of time will increase your technical ability on your instrument and improve camaraderie.

Camp takes place at Camp Serene, a beautiful mountain retreat nestled int he woods 20 miles northwest of Eugene, Oregon. Young Musicians and Artists (YMA) String Orchestra Camp

YMA Orchestra students get to learn and perform some of the world's great orchestral music. Even students with limited experience will find success in our Orchestra program, where you'll rehearse and perform alongside counselors and faculty members in a fun, supportive group. YMA has both a full orchestra and a string orchestra. As long as you can read music and have a cursory knowledge of your instrument you will have a great experience. Advanced players are put in positions of leadership, providing additional experience.
Because you'll be in a group of musicians with wide-ranging abilities, you'll experience mentoring at all levels and a unique camaraderie. Along with attending daily orchestra rehearsal, you'll spend time in sectionals, individual practice time and you'll be placed in a chamber music group suited to your ability level. You can also request private lessons throughout the camp session to refine your skills and deepen your understanding of music.

Cougar String Camp is a chamber music/orchestra camp designed for intermediate and advanced string players, grades 8-12, including those having just completed 7th grade and those having just graduated from high school. Violinists, violists, cellists and bassists work with Washington State University faculty and other fine musicians to improve their musical skills in a variety of ways, The camp focuses on chamber music (both small and large groups) and string orchestra. Campers also have the opportunity to participate in jazz improvisation, fiddling, string technique, conducting, music theory, history and master classes.
Cougar String campers also enjoy recreational activities such as picnics, indoor and outdoor games, dorm time, fun evening activities, concerts and the use of the WSU Recreational Center. Cougar String Camp staff provide 24 hour supervision. Experienced counselors stay in Wilmer-Davis Dormitory with the residential campers.
