About the Orchestra

The MVHS Orchestra is a recent addition to the expansive musical curriculum at Mountain View. Started in 2006, the orchestra has grown from less than 10 students to the 50 member ensemble it is today. The orchestra concentrates on developing musicianship with respect to strong rhythm reading, intonation and ensemble performance skills along with working on string playing techniques, including shifting, vibrato and advanced bow control. This class emphasizes ear training, sight-reading, major and minor scales, arpeggios, knowledge of music and symbols. Performances beyond the school day are a part of the class. The String Orchestra participates in at least three evening concerts during the school year. Home practice is expected and private lessons encouraged.
